Sometimes I struggle with books on prayer because the temptation to use prewritten prayers as magic formulas is ever-present.  This book, instead, understands that prayer is relational and offers real insight, beautifully written.

A Cabaret of Plants: Forty Years of Plant Life and the Imagination,  Richard Mabey

A rare collaboration of art and botanical science, this book is worth reading for the language alone, but the history and science are fun, too.
