Books I’m Reading
Gilead: a Novel by Marilynne Robinson
This novel is a river that seems slow but hours later, you look up and have been swept out to sea. This is less a book than it is an experience of love and struggle.
When the Heart Waits by Sue Monk Kidd
This is a book written specifically for me, I have decided; a middle-aged woman in between things waiting within the walls of a cocoon.
Prayer:Finding the Heart’s True Home by Richard Foster
Sometimes I struggle with books on prayer because the temptation to use prewritten prayers as magic formulas is ever-present. This book, instead, understands that prayer is relational and offers real insight, beautifully written.
A Cabaret of Plants: Forty Years of Plant Life and the Imagination, Richard Mabey
A rare collaboration of art and botanical science, this book is worth reading for the language alone, but the history and science are fun, too.
